When in ROME!!!!

Our first family picture taken eating gelato and drinking lemoncello and grappa!
Since we have moved here we have not had alot of time to just be tourists and take in the amazing sights. This past weekend we did just that! Mike started work on Monday so we decided to be tourists all day Sunday. Our day actually started Saturday night when we went for a walk to the Colosseum, walked around there and then stopped off to have some gelato and drinks.

San Giovanni Cathedral
Used to be the Official Rome Cathedral

Sunday was a beautiful day. It was 22 degrees and very sunny. I cannot remember the last time I walked around in a short sleeved shirt mid November! Our day started off with a wonderful lunch on at a tratoria where I finally had good authentic penne arrabiata and a nice glass of red wine. From lunch we walked back to the Colosseum. Every Sunday they shut the streets down around the area so pedestrians can walk without fear of being hit by a car. Back in June a dear friend - Emma - gave me a book - 24 walks to do in Rome. On this day we did a walk that took us from the Colosseum into San Giovanni. Along the walk we stopped off at various churches, each more beautiful than the last. Once we finished with the walk from the book we walked back home. Down the street from where we are living is the Church Santa Maria Maggiore. In this church are the remains of baby Jesus manger.  It was two planks of wood in an ornate glass urn protecting it. It was pretty neat to see.
Through this whole day Veronica slept. She woke up briefly outside of San Giovanni, I nursed her and she went back to sleep. Such a good baby!!!

  3. I love that you can casually take a walk in Rome and basically cloak yourself with history, culture and a host of sensory pleasures (esp. gelato). I am enjoying living vicariously through you. Veronica is such a lucky baby :)

  4. Hey Catherine,
Glad everything is going well with Veronica's arm. They say the calmer the mommy the calmer the baby...and I really believe that's true. I'm glad your enjoying this new chapter in your life. I cannot believe how it all started and you guys seem to be fairing amazingly...wow! Very impressed. I found it challenging just having a baby. Hope you all stay happy and happy and keep writing!
